GENERAL

 This syllabus is intended to provide information on how we will proceed with classes, both in person and online. Websites that we will use and information on how to sign up for each website will be provided. We will be working with a combination of google classroom, iCEV online curriculum and The AET.com. Please note that school communication will be through your school Email account. It is important that all students check their Emails for these classes as well as many other school functions.

 

 EXPECTATIONS AND GOALS

The expectations and goals of these course are that inspired learners seek educational opportunities through agriculture classes in pursuit of premier leadership, personal growth, and career success.              

  • Curriculum will be provided with a combination of online videos, PowerPoints, and assignments with additional enhancement activities
  • Students are expected to be available during scheduled class time even if they are remote learners. Zoom meetings and other class assistance will be provided at these times and attendance will be tied to both daily attendance and check in/availability during class time.
  • Students will have daily assignments that are tied to both class grades and attendance.

GRADES

Grade percentages will be 60% for daily grades/homework and 40% for test grades(assessments). Grades will be a combination of google classroom, iCEV assignments, tests/assessments, projects, computer record books, journals, and authentic assessments.

    Directions for Students Completing Registration Using Code

    Students iCEV Account (Available after 9/3/2020)

    Students visit www.icevonline.com and click the “Student Registration” link at the top right of the page. You will need to enter the registration code provided for your class and all other required information.

    Adding Additional Courses

    If you are in more than one course, you do not need to register again (this will use up an additional student license). However, you must register for each class.

    Click the green “Add New Course/Certification” button and enter any additional course codes. The additional courses will appear on the students “My Courses” page.

    If you are enrolled in more than one course, multiple course codes may be added in one sitting.

    Course Descriptions

    ** All students are encouraged to participate in extended learning experiences such as career and technical student organizations and other leadership or extracurricular organizations. **

    *The Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources Career Cluster focuses on the production, processing, marketing, distribution, financing, and development of agricultural commodities and resources, including food, fiber, wood products, natural resources, horticulture, and other plant and animal products/resources.*

     

     Intro to Ag - Principles of AFNR:

  • Principles of Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources - will allow students to develop knowledge and skills regarding career and educational opportunities, personal development, globalization, industry standards, details, practices, and expectations. To prepare for careers in agriculture, food, and natural resources, students must attain academic skills and knowledge in agriculture. To prepare for success, students need opportunities to learn, reinforce, experience, apply, and transfer their knowledge and skills in a variety of settings.

    Equine Management/Small Animal Production:

  • Equine Science - students will acquire knowledge and skills related to equine animal systems and the equine industry. Equine Science may address topics related to horses, donkeys, and mules. To prepare for careers in the field of animal science, students must enhance academic knowledge and skills, acquire knowledge and skills related to animal systems, and develop knowledge and skills regarding career opportunities, entry requirements, and industry expectations. To prepare for success, students need opportunities to learn, reinforce, apply, and transfer their knowledge and skills in a variety of settings.
  • Small Animal Management - students will acquire knowledge and skills related to small animals and the small animal management industry. Small Animal Management may address topics related to small mammals such as dogs and cats, amphibians, reptiles, and birds. To prepare for careers in the field of animal science, students must enhance academic knowledge and skills, acquire knowledge and skills related to animal systems, and develop knowledge and skills regarding career opportunities, entry requirements, and industry expectations. To prepare for success, students need opportunities to learn, reinforce, apply, and transfer knowledge and skills in a variety of settings.

    Livestock Production:   

  • Livestock Production - students will acquire knowledge and skills related to livestock and the livestock production industry. Livestock Production may address topics related to beef cattle, dairy cattle, swine, sheep, goats, and poultry. To prepare for careers in the field of animal science, students must attain academic skills and knowledge, acquire knowledge and skills related to animal systems and the workplace, and develop knowledge and skills regarding career opportunities, entry requirements, and industry expectations. To prepare for success, students need opportunities to learn, reinforce, apply, and transfer their knowledge and skills in a variety of settings.

    Advanced Animal Science:

  • Advanced Animal Science examines the interrelatedness of human, scientific, and technological dimensions of livestock production. Instruction is designed to allow for the application of scientific and technological aspects of animal science through field and laboratory experiences. To prepare for careers in the field of animal science, students must attain academic skills and knowledge, acquire knowledge and skills related to animal systems, and develop knowledge and skills regarding career opportunities, entry requirements, and industry standards. To prepare for success, students need opportunities to learn, reinforce, apply, and transfer their knowledge and skills in a variety of settings.

    Work Study – Practicum of AFNR, Career Prep I, Career Prep II or Project-Based Learning:

    *Career development is a lifelong pursuit of answers to the questions: Who am I? Why am I here? What am I meant to do with my life? It is vital that students have a clear sense of direction for their career choice. Career planning is a critical step and is essential to success.*

  • Project-Based Research is a course for students to research a real-world problem. Students are matched with a mentor from the business or professional community to develop an original project on a topic related to career interests. Students use scientific methods of investigation to conduct in-depth research, compile findings, and present their findings to an audience that includes experts in the field. To attain academic success, students must have opportunities to learn, reinforce, apply, and transfer their knowledge and skills in a variety of settings.

     

  • Practicum in Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources is designed to give students supervised practical application of knowledge and skills. Practicum experiences can occur in a variety of locations appropriate to the nature and level of experiences such as employment, independent study, internships, assistantships, mentorships, or laboratories. To prepare for careers in agriculture, food and natural resources, students must attain academic skills and knowledge, acquire technical knowledge and skills related to the workplace, and develop knowledge and skills regarding career opportunities, entry requirements, and industry expectations. To prepare for success, students need opportunities to learn, reinforce, apply, and transfer their knowledge and skills and technologies in a variety of settings.

     

  • Career Preparation I provides opportunities for students to participate in a work-based learning experience that combines classroom instruction with business and industry employment experiences. The goal is to prepare students with a variety of skills for a changing workplace. Career preparation is relevant and rigorous, supports student attainment of academic standards, and effectively prepares students for college and career success.

     

  • Career Preparation II develops essential knowledge and skills through advanced classroom instruction with business and industry employment experiences. Career Preparation II maintains relevance and rigor, supports student attainment of academic standards, and effectively prepares students for college and career success.               

               

  • Veterinary Medical Applications covers topics relating to veterinary practices, including practices for large and small animal species. To prepare for careers in the field of animal science, students must attain academic skills and knowledge, acquire technical knowledge and skills related to animal systems and the workplace, and develop knowledge and skills regarding career opportunities, entry requirements, and industry expectations. To prepare for success, students need opportunities to learn, reinforce, apply, and transfer knowledge and skills and technologies in a variety of settings.
